Gary Dale Gilley, 66, of Lake City, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, Dec. 12, 2014. He died at the Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis from injuries sustained in a house explosion on Nov.29, 2014, near Lake City.

Gary was born Sept. 21, 1948, to E.D. and Marie Copeland Gilley. He had lived most of his life in the Lake City area and was a member of the Bethabara Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah, son, Slade, his parents, brother, Carl, and niece, Jackie Roedel.

Gary graduated from Lake City High School in 1966. Soon after graduation, he began a career of truck driving. He had owned and operated his own truck plus driving for other entities. Gary served in the U.S. Army from 1968-1969 and was stationed stateside and abroad.

Gary is survived by two daughters, April Marie Rodriguez and Shelby Marie Gilley, of Lake City. Also surviving are three brothers, Bill Gilley (Ginny) of Independence, Mo., Jake Gilley (Eunice) of Lake City and Rocky Gilley (Cari) of Brookland; six sisters, Rosie Hudson, JoAnn Taylor (Donnie), and Darlene Etter (Bob) of Jonesboro, Clara Harrison (Charles) of New Albany, Miss., Peggy Starr and Patricia Fletcher (Bobby) of Lake City, and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Jarrid McGrew and Darin Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Cane Island Cemetery near Lake City.

Active pallbearers include John Calvert, Matt Owens, Tim Hogan, William Curtis, Justin Griffin and Brandon Brewer. Honorary pallbearers include Jeffro Winford, Dennis Cobb, David Curtis and Jordan Owens.
