Red Ribbon Week at BES

Friday, November 14, 2014

The annual Red Ribbon Week music program at Blytheville Elementary School, Oct. 31 in the gym, began with good music and positive speaking parts for many of the school's students, and it ended with displays of physical strength from members of a local martial arts program. The elementary school students both sang and talked about the benefits of living drug-free lives, and the music ended with four students who wrote a song dedicated to Red Ribbon Week. Those students are (from left) Lacambria Thompson, Iyawnia Robinson, Mariah Pirtle, and Jasmin Johnson. Afterwards, Anthony L. Smith discussed the injuries he received while stationed in Afghanistan and the months of rehabilitation that helped him ultimately become a martial arts instructor. He is pictured in a demonstration with his "right-hand woman" Malisa Harvey.
