Norval Wayne Spurlock
Norval Wayne Spurlock, 76 of Lake City, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital.
He was born October 23, 1938 in Lake City to the late Cecil and Annie Spurlock. Mr. Spurlock served his country proudly in the Army National Guard and on the Lake City city council for eleven years and as Mayor. He also served on the Lake City School Board for ten years, having the honor of presenting all his three children their high school diplomas. He was a charter member and past president of the Lake City Lions Club. He retired from Martin Sprocket Gear and had owned his own trucking firm and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. He was a member of the Bowman Baptist Church but attended the Lake City United Methodist Church.
He was presented "The Award of Exceptional Accomplishment" in 1978 for outstanding leadership in improving his community and Arkansas by the Arkansas Community Development program.
He was survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Norma Spurlock; two sons, Ira Spurlock of Blytheville and Greg Spurlock (Courtney) of Apopka, Fla.; a daughter, Tracy Rhodes (Dave) of Little Rock; three granddaughters, Elizabeth Spurlock, Zoe Rhodes and Mattie Rhodes; two brothers, Paul Spurlock and Ross Spurlock and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Gary Wayne Spurlock, and a sister, Gertha Spurlock Ratliff.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014, at Gregg Funeral Home with Rev. Winfred Bridges, Rev. Jerry Reed and Rev. Ron Langston officiating. Burial will follow at Monette Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until time of service Sunday at Gregg Funeral Home in Monette.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Lewis Nettles, Ron Bowman, Mark Bowman, Frankie Clayton, Rusty Tatum, Matt Redden, Chris Mayland and Steve Timms and as honorary pallbearers, Joe Shaver, Lewis "Plute" Ladd, Dwaine Malone, Jim Ladd, Jeff Kennedy, L.D. Chastain, Gerald Craig, Tim Redden, Glen Qualls, Carl Rodgers, Micky Mayland and Marty Bunch and the men of Lake City United Methodist Church.
