Betty Ruth Lester

Betty Ruth Lester, 68, of Manila, passed away Tuesday Oct. 28, 2014, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born in Manila, she was the daughter of the late Gaston Carmichael and Dorothy Ewing Gamble and had been a lifelong Manila resident. She had been a longtime employee of East Arkansas Agency on Aging and was a devoted wife and loving mother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Greg Lester, and one brother, Wayne Carmichael.

She is survived by her husband, George "Bill" Lester of the home;

Two daughters, Becky Lynn Stone and her husband Lester, and Lena Marie Fleeman and her husband Randy, all of Manila;

The brothers, Dan Gamble of Manila, James Gamble of Memphis and Billy Wayne Gamble of Manila;

Three sisters, Mary Alice Potter of Manila, Carol Ann Dean of Cleburne, Texas, and Nancy Sims of Marion;

Three grandchildren, Letonya Stone, Andrew Fleeman and Greg Stone; and

Seven great-grandchildren, Ashlynn Stull, Bryon Stull, Jacob Stone, Natalie Stone, Demitric Morris, Lisa Crowe Morris and Hailey Stone.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30 at Howard Funeral Service in Manila, with the Rev. William Piercy officiating. Burial will follow in the Manila Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
