Letter to the Editor

Local politicians should keep politics out of church

Friday, September 26, 2014

To the editor:

It's election time again, and I'm becoming increasingly aggravated with the tactics used by some candidates. I know politics is not pretty, but when a candidate feels the need to interrupt God's worship service to campaign using God's platform for his own purpose, it is an abomination to me.

People come to church to worship and to be healed and delivered. For some, it is the only spiritual feeding they receive, and to deprive someone of a chance to be fed or healed or delivered displays a lack of integrity and respect for God and a selfish attitude by the campaigner. Even more appalling is the fact that spiritual leaders who say they have been appointed and anointed by God permit it. Instead of promoting God's Word, which the antichrist is blatantly contesting, some of our ministers are selling out like Judas Iscariot, promoting certain candidates when they know that these persons do not have the public interest at heart. Woe to you who do this. As stewards over God's people, you have your just rewards too.

The divine Word of God in James 3:2-6 foretold of this behavior that is being made manifest today where men with gold rings and goodly apparel come into the assembly with the poor in vile raiment and respect is shown to him who wears the fine clothes and seats are reserved for him, whereas the poor are designated to stand or sit at a lower seat off to the side or in the rear. Some of these same men whose seats are reserved for have similar mentalities and motives as those who proposed taking prayer out of the schools.

Currently, there is an issue being debated about disciplining our children. This issue is not new and openly raised its head around the time schools were ordered to be desegregated. It was then that I remember the issue of corporal punishment being raised and prohibited in the school system. Now the issue is questioning the parents' right to determine how their children should be disciplined. I suspect this issue may soon be on the ballot; yet, I haven't heard our local leaders speak out regarding what God's Word says about chastening our children. Proverbs 19:18, 21:13, 22:15, and Hebrews 12:5-11 are just a few of the scriptures that address correction and disciplining our children. If we love our children, we will chasten them because we know the world will not love them like we do and is not merciful to unacceptable behavior.

Our currency, our Constitution, and Bill of Rights all give the indication that we trust in God and our country supposedly was established on these principals, yet in reality, I see a people who have strayed away from God in spite of all His blessings and are openly rebelling against Him. "His Story" repeats itself as a warning to us and His Word will stand the test of time unlike man, who has to amend and revise his words.
