Local Master Gardeners recognized

Friday, September 19, 2014

The Master Gardener program was started in 2009 in Mississippi County and provides multiple beautification and educational programs. Five Mississippi County Master Gardeners received five-year pins and certificates for volunteering their time and expertise to the county program. Those honored include (back, from left) Mylinda Nelson, Mark Moseley, Pam Blankenship, Marilyn Woessner and Joe Evans. Tamika Jenkins (front) was also honored, as a "local hero," for her vision and work on the EOC community garden. Jenkins, recognizing issues in Mississippi County such as poverty and obesity issues, wrote and received a grant in 2010 for a community garden. The grant was one of seven in the state of Arkansas. As a Master Gardener, she has been able to aid local residents with good food choices. Based on these efforts, the Mississippi County Master Gardeners recognized her as their Master Gardener of the Year.
