Norman Williams

Norman Williams, 78, a lifelong resident of Black Oak, passed away Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro. Mr. Williams was born Feb. 7, 1936, in Black Oak to the late Jake "JK" and Eva Fisher Williams. Mr. Williams was a member of the Black Oak Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, was an Air Force veteran and mayor of Black Oak for 30 years and loved his town. He also farmed and worked at FMC in Jonesboro for 22 years.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Peggy Williams of the home; one son, Norman Lynn Williams, and wife Leann of Rogers; one brother, Brinkley Williams; three sisters, Jeanie Wallace, Oquilla Rodgers and Peggy Cleghorn; two grandchildren, Lane and Lyndsey Williams; and a host of other family and friends.

Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Johnny Williams, and one sister, Maxine Brady.

The family will receive visitors at the church from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at Black Oak Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry "Chub" Qualls and Rev. Jerry Reed officiating. Interment will follow at the Monette Cemetery under the direction of Faith Funeral Service.

Pallbearers are Eric Moxley, Brant Dowless, Fred Dowless, Lane Williams, Bob Blankenship and Randy Hutchison.

Honorary pallbearers were Harold Perrin, Leroy Burdin, Don Scruggs, Billy Stephens, Jon Milligan, Barry Riley, Jerry "Chub" Qualls, Darrel Kirby, Kenneth Jones, Ed Hill, Garland Tipton, Marty Boyd, Kenny Vaughn, Eddie Dunigan, Jon Carmichael, Troy Douglas, Brett Hickman, Tina Davis and Cameron Tate.
