Joe Dean Pierce, 77, of Manila died Wednesday July 30, 2014, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born at Manila he was the son of the late Arthur Dean and Jeraldine L. Edwards Pierce and had been a lifetime Manila resident. He was a 1954 graduate of Manila High School and a member of First United Methodist Church in Manila. He was a retired lab tech for the former Buffalo Island Community Hospital in Manila, a longtime member of the Manila School Board and a United States Air Force veteran during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara Ballard Pierce of Manila; three sons, Mickey Pierce and wife Wilma of Lepanto, Dave Pierce and wife Mylinda of Monette and Barry Pierce and wife Beverly of Mountain View; one daughter, Kellye Brown and husband Larry of Manila; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with the Reverend Jerry Pentecost officiating. Burial will follow in the Manila Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
