R.J. "Pete" Hill

The Rev. R.J. "Pete" Hill, 87, of Osceola, died Friday, July 25, 2014, at his home in Osceola. He was born in Turrell, the son of Gaither and Rosie Walker Hill.

He served in the U.S. Army and was employed as a machine specialist at American Greetings of Osceola until his retirement. He served as pastor of First Baptist Church at Frenchman's Bayou for 21 years, until illness caused him to retire.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Geneva Ford Hill, his son, Donald, his grandsons, Antonio Hill and Gerard Gulledge, and siblings Freddie B. Hill, Rozena Hannah, Frank Hill and Robert Hill.

Mr. Hill leaves two sons, James (Brenda) Hill of Memphis and Lorenzo Hill of Little Rock;

Four daughters, Clotis (Sterling) Wafford of Dallas, and Lula Hill, Sharon Hill and Vivian Hill, all of Osceola;

Three brothers, Tommie (Vernita) Hill of Memphis, Lawrence (Barbara) Hill of Oak Park and Richard (Bettye) Hill of Osceola;

Four sisters, Ollie Mae Donnerson of Birdsong, Ruthie Williams and Murline Hayes of Kansas City and Bettye (Lee) Williams of Saginaw; and

Ten grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The family will receive visitors from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, July 31, at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church of Osceola, the Rev. Cleveland Cain, pastor.

Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Jimmy Johnson, will be held at noon Friday, Aug. 1, at Promiseland Church of God in Christ of Osceola, Elder Johnny L. Moore, pastor. Burial will follow at Whiteside Gardens.
