Virginia Myrick Huffman

Mrs. Virginia Myrick Huffman, 97, of Richmond, Va., formerly of Blytheville, died May 21, 2014. Born in Blytheville, she grew up in Memphis and lived most of her life in Blytheville. She graduated from Hutchison School in Memphis and Blue Mountain College in Mississippi. She was always interested in learning and served as a substitute teacher in Blytheville, and was a member of several groups.

She was a member of several book groups as well as a member of First Baptist Church in Blytheville where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and a strong supporter of every activity involving her husband and children.

To illustrate the vitality of her life, living in Memphis at over 85 years of age, she was a volunteer at Baptist Memorial Hospital, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, The Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, Dixon Gallery and Gardens and the Rock 'n' Soul Museum.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Huffman Jr.

Mrs. Huffman leaves one son, Alvin Huffman III of Fairhope, Ala.;

One daughter, Emily Huffman McLeod of Richmond, Va.;

Four grandchildren, Laura Huffman Byrd of Columbus, Ohio, Edward Gholston Huffman of Drien, Conn., John Huffman McLeod of Middlebury, Va., and Virginia McLeod of Richmond, Va.; and

Ten great-grandchildren, Edward and William Byrd, Benjamin, Andrew, Nicholas and Jane Huffman, Elizabeth and Andrew Jones, and Henry and Calder Birdsey.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014, in the Chapel at First Baptist Church in Blytheville. The family will receive visitors at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
