Violet Elizabeth Alexander

Violet Elizabeth Alexander, 92, of Manila, died Thursday, May 22, 2014, at the Manila Nursing Center.

Born in a log cabin near Greenville, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Addie Mae Collins Waddell. Violet moved to Arkansas in 1928, at the age of 7, when her family leased a small farm in the Blackwater community near Manila. In September of 1938, she married Raymond Scott, and together, they farmed at Blackwater until his death in 1973. She was married to Erlow Alexander from 1975 until his death in 1992. Violet retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 25 years of service. She was a longtime member of Blackwater Baptist Church, where she served as church pianist and treasurer for many years.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by three sons, Jimmy Scott, Gean Scott and Bobby Scott; her brother, Carroll Waddell; and a sister, Verl Keller.

She is survived by her daughters, Marcia Morgan of Swansea, Ill., and Elizabeth Vance of Truxton, Mo.;

Two brothers, Lee Waddell of Clinton, Ark., and Vance Waddell of Imboden;

Three sisters, Jennie Mae Justice of Jonesboro, Bert Mobley of Pensacola, Fla., and June Milligan of Pine Bluff; and

Ten grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a host of great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with the Rev. Jared Russell and the Rev. Waymon Holt officiating. Burial will follow in the Manila Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brad Scott, Barry Scott, Bobby Dean Scott, Scott Hensley, Paul Palmer and Todd Ferguson.
