Laverne Seymore Grooms

Mrs. Laverne Seymore Grooms, 85, of Paducah, Ky,. formerly of Leachville and Blytheville, passed from this life Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Superior Care Nursing Home in Paducah. She was born Dec, 6, 1928 in Desha, Ark., to the late Ira and Virgie Lee Seymore and shortly thereafter moved to Leachville. Her early years were spent as a farmer's wife and homemaker. For many years, Laverne enjoyed a career as a travel agent at First Delta Travel in Blytheville and all of the travel it afforded her. She was also in retail sales for many years in Blytheville.

She dearly loved her family and her many nieces and nephews who often referred to her as the matriarch of the family. Laverne and her husband had lived for several years with their daughter and son-in-law in Paducah.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Lura Pruitt, Mary Jane Rickard and Inez Langston; and a brother, Ernest Neal "Buddy" Seymore.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Marvin "Tussel" Grooms of Paducah;

A daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Grooms Chandler Dement and her husband, Dickie, of Paducah;

A grandson, Lance Chandler and his wife, Sharla, of Topeka, Kan.;

A granddaughter, Annah Cynclaire Stovall of Joplin, Mo.; and

Many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville. Burial will follow in the Leachville Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Sunday from 12:30 until service time. The family prefers any memorials be made to the Leachville First Assembly of God, or Project Forward, Heartland Worship Center, 4777 Barkley Dr. Paducah, KY 42001.
