Leonard Eugene "Mr. Gene" Pierce, 87, of Blytheville passed from this life Friday, April 25, 2014, at the Heritage Square Nursing Center in Blytheville. Born to Lovid E. and Geneva Bailey Pierce, he was the former owner/operator of Mr. Gene's Family Hair Center and a member of the 10th Street Baptist Church.

Gene was an individual who as a Barber recognized the trend toward different styles of haircuts. He decided to change his barbershop to a family hair center and hired a beautician to offer more to his customers than the traditional haircuts. Gene also was an avid gardener. He and his wife, Freddie, would spend hours and their yard was a true showplace, especially this time of year. Gene's love for Freddie was a love of devotion and dedication. When Freddie became ill several years ago his love for her was evident in the tenderness and care he devoted to her. His faith in God was strong and was prevalent in all he did.

Gene is survived by the love of his life, Freddie Lou Garner Pierce;

A brother, Charles Gordon Pierce and his wife, Dorothy, of Haleyville, Ala.;

Two nieces, Cindy Barringer and Teresa Hill;

Two nephews, Paul Garner and Marc Garner, both of Mississippi;
