Sara Elizabeth Sharp Rankin Vandiver

Mrs. Sara Elizabeth Sharp Rankin Vandiver, 98, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, Jan. 7, 2014.

She was born on Nov. 3, 1915, in Dermott.

Mrs. Vandiver served as Postmaster in Driver from 1954 until she retired in 1980. Mrs. Vandiver was a faithful servant of God and attended the First Baptist Church of Osceola and the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Albertville, Ala.

She was preceded in death by her first husband of 36 years, James Dorothy Rankin of Driver, and her beloved second husband of 18 years, William Doyle Vandiver of Osceola;

Her parents, James Earl and Celeste Heskett Sharp;

Her son, William Earl Rankin of Albertville, Ala.;

Her brother, James Earl Sharp of Las Vegas, Nev.;

And her sister, Martha Jane Sharp Brouse Myers of North Carolina.

She is survived by her son, James D. Rankin Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Hamburg;

Her daughter-in-law, Sybil Lang Rankin of Albertville, Ala.;

Her step-daughters, Carolyn Vandiver Pottan and her husband, Corbett, of Memphis;

Her grandchildren, Robin Rankin, Elizabeth Rankin Henson and her husband, Michael, all of Albertville, Ala., James D. Rankin III and wife, Ashley, of Little Rock, Stanley Downey Rankin and wife, Stacie, of Springdale, Joshua David Rankin and wife, Valerie, of Fayetteville, Greg Pollan and wife, Terri, of Memphis, and Brent Pollan and wife, Vicky, of Cordova, Tenn.; and

Thirteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held today in the chapel of the Albertsville Funeral Home in Albertsville, Ala. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at the Dermott Cemetery in Dermott under the direction of Jones-Harston Funeral Home in Hamburg.
