Donald Ray Bowen departed this world on the 26th day of November, 2013 at 12:45 a.m., in Jonesboro, at the age of 75.

He was born in the Macey Community on Oct. 16, 1938, to Cleburne Bowen and Juanita (Harper) Bowen. Donald lived all his life in the Caraway area and was first employed by David Sales & Service, Thermogas, and was owner/operator of Bowen Construction & Realty. Into his first marriage with Roxie (Barker) was born two daughters, Donna Miller (Hunter) and Kim Couch (Randy). He was also father to Kim Hurst (Ronnie), Julie Bell and Jason New (Rhonda) with his wife, Betty Sue Bowen.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Cleburne and Juanita Bowen, and wife, Betty Sue Bowen.

He is survived by two sisters, Norma Darlene Chrisco of Monette and Deloris Faye Britt of Hendersonville, Tenn.; five children; nine grandchildren along with four great grandchildren.

Donald graduated from Caraway Central High with the Class of '57. He was an active member of the Lions Club and former Caraway Jaycees. He dearly loved his community, always looked forward to the 4th of July celebration and reminiscing with old friends. Donald enjoyed hunting, fishing and most of all, gardening. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family. For the past several years, he resided at Lakeside Nursing Center in Lake City where he was loved by all. Donald's presence in Caraway will be lasting, for all that he contributed to the community and will be sorely missed by many.

Graveside services were held on Wednesday, Nov. 27, at 11:00 a.m. at the Caraway Cemetery, under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

There was no visitation.

Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Fletcher, Thurman Nuckles, David Lane, Jerry Qualls, Paul Taylor and the Caraway Class of '57.

Lasting memorials may be made to the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, American Diabetes Foundation or the Caraway Volunteer Ambulance.
