Charlie William Bassing

Mr. Charlie William Bassing, 84, of Lake City, formerly of Leachville, passed from this life, Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at the Monette Manor Nursing Center. Born in Lamar County, Texas, he was the son of the late Charley and Sallie Davis Bassing and had lived most of his life in Texas.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1946-1949 and worked many years as a boiler operator in Texas oil refineries. He was a longtime member of the Church of Christ and had served 33 years in the ministry. Mr. Bassing had been a Leachville resident for over 20 years before making his home in Lake City a year ago.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Doris Nell Bassing; a son, Charles Michel Bassing; four brothers, and two sisters.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Cherryl Bassing of Lake City;

Five grandchildren, Joshua Michel Bassing, Angelia Lynn Bassing, Matthew Bassing, Mark Bassing and Leah Myers; and

Ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville with Tim Bassing officiating. Burial will follow in Leachville Cemetery. Mr. Bassing's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be private. Guests may register at www.HowardFuneralService.com
