Flossie Mae Nelson Milhorn

Flossie Mae Nelson Milhorn, 80, of Blytheville passed from this life Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, at her home.

Although we didn't want to and it was so hard to let you go, we knew you had grown tired. We all mourn your loss, but we're comforted knowing you're in Heaven watching over us and if we're not living life, I am sure she'll let us know.

She was born in Memphis to Samuel and Willie Mae Harris Nelson. She was the youngest and the last one of seven children to leave this earth. Born in the time of the depression, she learned how to live with very little and make it work. She lost her mother at the age of five. Life was not easy for her. She first married Kenneth Batten, at age 15, and had two children, and then she married again to Earnest Hylton and had two more children.

She moved to California in 1965 and loved it, with the beautiful weather and sunshine. She was known for her lively personality and great food. She knew how to throw a party and everyone felt welcome. People always wanted to be around her. She was infectious with her love of life and warm heart. She worked hard and played hard, that's just the way she was. She was the type of person that stayed in touch with those she loved wherever they lived, the phone was always ringing. She loved her family from Memphis so much, every Nelson seemed to be a relative and most of them are or at least close. She loved for them to visit her in California. Her brother Harry followed her to California then told her, "please don't move to Hawaii, I don't think my car will make it!" All the Nelsons have a funny personality and can tell a story.

She moved to Blytheville with her husband, Jim Milhorn, to take care of his sister, Edwin. She passed and then Jim passed shortly after. She has always taken care of one person or another in her life. She just felt it was her way of saying "I love you." She was hard-headed and very loving just like the rest of the Nelsons. Many called her for a shoulder to cry on and found a lesson to learn. But she was right most of the time, so you would find yourself calling her knowing, you were going to get the truth, be it good or bad.

Faye was a factory worker with Federal Mogel and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed gardening and large family gatherings.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

She leaves behind her son, Kenneth Batten Jr.;

Her daughters, Connie Castor-Strode, Donna Leonard and Brenda Hollis;

Ten grandchildren;

Thirteen great-grandchildren; and

One great great grandchild.

Special thanks are due to her daughter, Donna Leonard, for being with her in this last year of bad health and for taking good care of her, with all the appointments, doctors and hard times that you both went through, our love goes out to you. Also, her grandson, Lewis Doster, for always helping her with all her projects, they were endless. You were always there for her, we know you loved her. "Thank You!!!"

She has touched the lives of so many people across this world. This is one girl that is truly going to be MISSED!

Mama, you're always in my heart! Until we meet again.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Elmwood Cemetery with Kenneth Batten Jr. and Brenda Hollis officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday, from 10-10:45 a.m. at Cobb Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed to the family at cobbfuneralhome.com
