Eugene Maddox

The Rev. Eugene Maddox, former pastor of Cherry Street Church of God in Blytheville, was born in Fayette, Ala., April 10, 1922, and went to be with Jesus at 6:14 a.m. Sunday, July 21, 2013, at the age of 91.

Eugene is the last of the Maddox children. He was a World War II Veteran and received the Bronze Star for going under fire on the front line to get three wounded soldiers to safety. He was a full time pastor of the Church of God and pastored 47 years to 10 churches and pastored 15 years to the Senior Group.

He leaves to mourn his wife of 65 years, Dollie Mae Maddox,;

A daughter, Mary Jean (and Dennis) Lee of Moss Point, Miss.;

Five sons, Samuel Ray (and Sheila) Maddox Sr. of Blytheville, Jackie (and Michelle) Maddox of Jackson, Miss., Phillip (and Kitty) Maddox of Lake City, Fla., Drexal Lynn (and Karyn) Maddox of Omaha, Neb., and Claude Steven (and Cathey) Maddox of Council Bluff, Iowa;

A step-daughter, Valeria Shepard of Winter Haven, Fla.;

Twenty-four grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; and

Many church families and numerous of other relatives.

Funeral services will be held at Oak Park Church of God in Mobile, Ala., aat 3 p.m. Thursday. His body will be laid to rest at Serenity Gardens Cemetery in Mobile.
