Mr. John Powell McHann, 83, a former resident of Blytheville and Southaven, Miss., passed away after a long illness Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Osceola Living Center. He was the son of Earnest and Nancy McHann of Tippo, Miss.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Jean McHann; and sisters Annette Bair and Betty Finka.

He is survived by his brother Jimmy McHann of Jackson, Miss.;

A loving Christian father, he is also survived by four children, William C. (Bill) McHann of Blytheville, Ms. Rita Baker of Southaven, Miss., Stacy Bullard and husband, Ted, of Blytheville, and Mr. John David McHann and wife, Carol, of Bridge City, Texas.

He was blessed with five grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

With his friendly personality, he enjoyed a successful sales career in the food industry and won many awards. He was quick to smile and loved to tell jokes. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in both the Air Force and Army while enlisted overseas. A member of the basketball team at Charleston High School from 1949-1950, he once played against the Harlem Globetrotters.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday at Newsom Funeral Home, 911 E. Main St. Charleston, Miss., with interment immediately after at Needmore Cemetery in Tippo, Miss.
