Johnny Dave Smithey, 62, of Caraway passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.

He was born May 16, 1951, in Frenchman's Bayou, Ark., to the late Tommy Smithey and Darlene Smithey Rowell. Mr. Smithey served proudly in the United States Army during Vietnam War. He was a carpenter and painter for over 40 years and had also worked in the Mississippi County Hospital System.

Johnny loved his family and enjoyed hunting.

Survivors include his wife of thirteen years, Lea Ann Smithey; his children, Johnny "Skipper" Smithey Jr. and wife Susan of Keiser, Geri Lynn Smithey-Parish of Keiser, Tommy Ray Smithey of Memphis, Ashley Elinburg and husband, John of Jonesboro, Wes Wallace of Caraway and Clinton Wallace and wife Katlin of Caraway; six sisters, Sharlene Dixon, Janey Smithey, Mary Ann Spence, JoAnn Smith, Tina Tacker and Tammy Smithey; a brother, Tommy Smithey Jr.; sixteen grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He is also preceded in death by two brothers, James Smithey and Jerry Lee Smithey; a sister, Tommie Faye Ulrich.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2013, at Gregg Funeral Home in Monette with Pastor Todd Vinson officiating. Interment will follow in Monette Memorial Cemetery.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Thursday, May 23, 2013, from 6:00 until 8:00 pm.

Lasting memorial may be sent to Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.

Allen Nixon Jr., Dr. Bock Harris, Dr. Joseph Rhodes, Nursing Staff at NEA Baptist and the entire staff of Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House and Joe Ashburn.
