Randall J. Williams

Wednesday, May 1, 2013

Mr. Randall J. Williams, 50, of Wilson, passed away Friday, April 26, 2013. He was born in Dumas Dec. 30, 1962, to Floyd J. and Betty (Mitchell) Williams. Captain Williams was employed by the Arkansas Department of Corrections (ADC) for over twenty-six years.

He worked for Varner before transferring to Mississippi County Work Release Center where he was the Captain over Mississippi County Work Release. He supervised 30 employees and 121 inmates on a daily basis to ensure safety and security. Capt. Williams was always available when needed and always available to fill in when needed.

He was very active in the community by donating Christmas toys for Toys for Tots, prizes for Bingo for the elderly, donating food, toys and other much needed supplies to the Haven (abused women's shelter). He also donated school supplies to various schools in the area.

Capt. Williams was instrumental in supporting (12 miles) Adopt-A-Highway for Mississippi County. He also transported inmates to local schools to participate in inmate panels.

He received numerous awards and letters from mayors, senators and citizens from Mississippi, Clay and Craighead Counties. Capt. Williams was a "shining star" for ADC. Staff was proud to have him on the ADC team. Capt. Williams always had a "get-r-done" attitude which motivated other staff members. He was a great leader and follower; the best part of Capt. Williams is that he has "Character." So, Capt. Williams was a "Hero" and has set the example for others to follow.

He is survived by his father, Floyd J. Williams of Rison;
