Maxine Brittain Stalcup passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013, at home in Mountain View. She was born in Oil Trough on Buzzard Roost Road, Oct. 26, 1920. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Lenore Brittain, her husband, J.T. "Charley" Stalcup, a son Charley Stalcup, a granddaughter Mary Maxine Stalcup, and great-grandson Zachery Conley.

Maxine was a life long member of Church of Christ in Blytheville and East Side Church of Christ in Mountain View. Her love of travel sent her out of the state many times but most of her life was spent in her beloved Arkansas. Mother was an amazing listener and people were drawn to her for her sensitive and compassionate nature as well as her ability to find humor in any situation.

Upon completion of her education she entered the University of Life and continued her education in so many ways. Maxine helped with the World War II effort by serving as head price clerk on the Ration Board. She worked as a substitute teacher, bookkeeper and assistant manager of the family-owned contracting and service station. Maxine volunteered in many organizations, local, county, and state PTA, 4-H club, Home Demonstration Clubs, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Boy Scouts. Maxine was a founding member of the Mountain View Art Guild and held all officer positions on numerous occasions and a member of Poet's Round Table of Arkansas.

She will always be remembered for her smile and hugs for everyone and never met a stranger; she had the personality to make everyone feel comfortable from the start. She had many interests: writing (published author) painting, hiking, back packing, spelunking, genealogy, photography, traveling, gardening, especially with herbs and wild plants, collecting everything from dolls to snake skins. Mother loved Wildhaven, her home till passing.
Mother's joy for life and all things that come with it was well known and her mind never stopped working no matter if she was studying or just spending time admiring the clouds and all the wild plants at her home, "Wild Haven" just off Wild Haven Road at the bottom of Iron Mountain just before you run into Rocky Bayou creek.
Maxine's memories will be cherished by two sons, David Stalcup and wife, Lou, and Gean Stalcup and wife Janice;

Two daughters, Betsy Crispell and husband, Don, and Nancy Ivey and husband, Butch; and

Eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grandchild.

The family would like to give special recognition to Admedisys and their wonderful nurses, Stone County Home Health, Dr. Nick and his amazing staff, Cheri Taylor, Kim Miller and Marissa Vannatter. Our journey has been a long one and all the love and care will always bless our lives.
