Small act by BPD officer appreciated

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

To the editor:

It is unfortunate, but it seems most of the time that people are only willing to take a moment of their time to share with the public when they have something negative or critical to say.

I, for one, wish people would be more willing to share positive messages regarding our community. I myself have been guilty of not taking the time to give public praise because I said weeks ago, after the first occurrence, that I was going to write this, but never found the time; so with that said I would like to offer a public thank you and praise to Officer Jeff Culp of the Blytheville Police Department. This morning upon opening my business on Main Street I found (for the third time) a personal note from Officer Culp stating that during his shift he had checked my business and found it to be secure.

It's the small things in life that seem to make the most difference and as a business owner it is reassuring to know that the BPD is paying attention. I hope that the chief and other BPD leadership will continue to train their officers to go above and beyond the text book definition of duty and to continue with the "small" things that make

us citizens feel safe and secure. Good Job BPD!

I would also encourage the public to practice the "small" things in life and offer appreciation to officers when you see them out and about. Is the BPD perfect? No, but I sure wouldn't want to live without them. And remember they often sacrifice their only family time to protect yours.
