Survivor Dinner called a success

To the editor:

The North Mississippi County Relay for Life teams sponsored a Survivor Dinner on Thursday, Oct. 25 at the Fairview Baptist Family Center in Blytheville. Approximately 31 survivors were in attendance, along with Relay for Life team members and guests. It is an honor for the Relay for Life teams to sponsor this event, and we hope each year that more and more survivors will be able to attend. I want to thank our Survivor Committee, Jill Hubbard, Ann Coleman, Suzanne Kenner and Tobey Johnson for sending out letters to all the registered survivors and making sure they are informed of this special event. And if you are a survivor and have not registered, I encourage you to do so by contacting one of these ladies.

I want to thank everyone who helped out at the Survivor Dinner. First, I want to thank Fairview Baptist Church for allowing us the use of their Family Center and setting up tables and chairs. Special thanks to Hays for supplying all the drinks and the cupcakes, Southern Bancorp for buns and rolls, Tenaris for all the paper goods, Carol Lammers for the wreath that she made and donated for a door prize and for the delicious strawberry cake, Hill Services and Haas Environmental for donating the Boston butts and chickens, Kream Castle for donating the slaw, Nucor Steel for donating all the cakes and to Steve Southard for his famous baked beans. A very special "thanks" to Terry Clark for cooking the Boston Butts and chickens. They were delicious! I also want to thank the Target girls who came to help serve and cater to the survivors. We appreciate you so much. Thanks also to Barbara Williams with For Every Home who donated a beautiful candle basket as a door prize, to Nucor-Yamato Steel for the gift bags for all the survivors and to Mike and Sherry Dugan for their donation of some beautiful mosaic plaques that were given away to our survivors.

A special thanks to Schlosser Photography for taking pictures of the survivors which will be displayed at our Relay event this next June and thanks to Christie Patterson for making this happen.

And last, but certainly not least, I want to extend a very special "thank you" to the entire Relay for Life committee and team members. None of this would be possible without them and the support they provide. They are dedicated volunteers who work all year around to raise money for the American Cancer Society. A lot of folks were involved in getting this dinner together, so I sincerely apologize if I have overlooked anyone.

Our sincere thanks to all the Survivors for coming out and I hope that you had a good time.
