Elmer Eugene Grissom, 81, of Blytheville, died Friday, Sept. 28, at his home.

Born in Cabot to Edward Eli and Minnie Beatrice Ausburn Grissom, he lived in Blytheville most of his life, and was a member of 10th Street Baptist Church. Elmer was a retired heating and refrigeration mechanic, was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean War and receiving three bronze stars for his service, and was a member of Gideon's International. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Elmer was a devoted father, husband and grandfather, who loved yard work, landscaping and reading following his retirement. He loved helping out at church, never for attention, but using his talents as a servant of God.

Elmer is survived by his wife, Louise McMinn Grissom of the home;

His children, Tony Grissom and wife Vickie of Fitzgerald, Ga., Mitchell Grissom and wife Cheryle of Gosnell, David Grissom and wife Kristi of Chico, Calif., and Valerie Walker and husband Mark of Germantown, Tenn.;

His sister, Myrtle Little and husband Charles of Steele;

His grandchildren, Jon Grissom of Fitzgerald, Ga., Jennifer Harrison of Blytheville, Jessica Roberts of Gosnell, Chelsea Grissom and Samuel Grissom of Chico, Calif.; and Kyle David Walker of Knoxville, Tenn.; and

His Great-grandchildren, Will Roberts, Luke Roberts, Hudson Harrison, Harrison Grissom, Maddox Harrison and Ella Roberts.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Max Briley officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery in Steele.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. today (Sunday) at Cobb Funeral Home.
