Earnest Bismark Watkins

Mr. Earnest Bismark Watkins, 73, of Higden, formerly of the Half Moon community, passed from this life Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at his home in Higden. Born in Luxora, he was the son of the late James Walter and Thelma Gillis Watkins and had lived most of his life in the Blytheville area. He was a retired chief engineer on a riverboat and was of the Pentecostal faith.

Earnest was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting and cooking and loved his dogs, Bear and Tinkerbell, but his greatest enjoyment in life was spoiling his children and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Ruth Kettinger Watkins; a son, Terry Brackin; a brother, John Watkins; and a sister, Rose Weder.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Jody Brackin of Armorel;

One daughter and son-in-law, Christie and Eddie Bolar of Leachville;

Five brothers, Joe Watkins of Higden, Charlie Watkins of Luxora, Jimmy Watkins of Caruthersville, Mo., Rocky Watkins of Half Moon and Paul Watkins of Luxora.

He also leaves seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville with the Rev. Mike Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Blytheville.
