Mrs. Virginia Cook Holt, 89, died Saturday, June 2, 2012, in Roseburg, Ore.

Virginia was born in Blytheville Dec. 17, 1922, to the late Mervin and Florence Cook. She graduated from Gosnell High School. In November 1942 she married Robert L. Holt, then a Lieutenant and decorated pilot in the US Army Air Corps.

She was a devoted wife throughout their journeys on duty in the Air Force from Colorado Springs, Col., to Guam in the Marianas Islands. Her only child, Gary, was born in 1946. The course of her life then took her from Oxford, Miss., to Chapel Hill, N.C., as she supported the educational activities of her husband. Ultimately these efforts led to a professorship of chemistry at ULM for Dr. Holt and a managing teller position for Mrs. Holt at Ouachita National Bank.

Virginia was an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Monroe for 50 years. Her focus outside of church was family, travel, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert L. Holt, who died June 27, 1993, and her sister Thelma Stabler of Hollywood, Fla.

She is survived by her son, Robert Gary Holt, M.D., and his wife, Darlena, of Roseburg, Ore.;

Five grandchildren, Claiborne, Devin, Avery, Graham, and Maia;

Two great-grandchildren, Quinn and Josephine;

Her sister Bonnie and her husband, Richard Justinger of New Braunfels, Texas;

Her uncle, Woodrow Cook, of Blytheville; and

Her dearest friend, Tommie Letson of Monroe.

A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 1901 Lexington Ave. in Monroe, at 2 p.m. Monday. Graveside services will be in Elmwood Cemetery at 10 a.m. Wednesday June 13, 2012, in Blytheville. Local funeral arrangements are by Cobb Funeral Home of Blytheville.
