Janice Chun Demott Pickering, 66, of Jonesboro, died Friday, May 4, 2012, at Jonesboro Healthcare Center in Jonesboro.

Born to Samuel Wilbur "S.W." and Dorothy Flowers Chun in Luxora, she was a retired telephone operator at the Arlington Hotel in Hot Springs and was of the Baptist faith. Being a phone operator was natural for Jan, as one of her favorite pastimes in life was talking on the phone. Yet, little did she understand how communication would become such an important part of her life. When her disability placed her in the nursing center later in life, she was able to use her abilities and bring memorable and joyful moments to those around her. Jan was recognized as Mrs. Congeniality several times, beauty contest winner and won a "really tall trophy" in the Nursing Center Special Olympics. As she assisted residents, she developed many close friendships and inspired others to make any situation a positive one. A talented singer, Jan loved to sing with her father and brother. Jan's' time with family, especially her daughter, was her greatest joy in life. Jan's' parents, and brother, Terry Chun preceded her in death.

Survivors are her husband, Emmett Pickering, (married Oct. 1, 2011);

Her children, Zina Chrisco Hirsch of Bellville, Texas, Aaron Demott of Afghanistan;

A grandson, Chad Hirsch of Bellville, Texas;

A step-grandson, Brody Pickering of Jonesboro;

Her sisters, Patricia Gail Hayslip of Jonesboro, Donna Kelley and husband David of Steele;
