Hershel Everett Copeland

Mr. Hershel Everett Copeland, 64, son of the late Clarence and Mae Hooten Copeland, died Thursday, April 5, 2012, in Jonesboro.

Born Sept. 1, 1947 in Huffman, Hershel was united in marriage with Peggy Sue Leggett in Tyler, Mo., on Aug. 23, 1967. He worked until his retirement for Noranda in New Madrid, and was a member of Holly Grove Baptist Church in Cooter. He was blessed to have friends all over the Bootheel of Missouri and northeast Arkansas, and anywhere he went he made new friends.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Gregory Adam Copeland; and six brothers, Samuel, Chesley, Leo, Parker, Richard and Woodrow Copeland; and two sisters, Bernice Copeland and Ruth Wells.

Mr. Copeland leaves his wife, Peggy Copeland of Cooter;

Two sons, Charles Anthony (Tony) and wife, Mary, of Cooter, and Christopher Everett and wife, Kimberly, of Jonesboro;

One brother, Wayne (and Carol) Copeland of Hamlet;

Three sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Copeland of Park Hills and Shirley Leggett and Shirley and J.B. Laster of Jonesboro;

Five grandchildren, Charles and Madison Copeland of Cooter, and Chance, Chandler and Chase Copeland of Jonesboro; and

A large family of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews and brother- and sisters-in-law.

The family will receive visitors from 1-4 p.m. today at Holly Grove Baptist Church in Cooter. Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Dave Lewelling, will begin at 4 p.m. today at the church. Burial will follow at Number Eight Cemetery in Cooter.
