Letter to the Editor

Unity needed to move city forward

Friday, March 30, 2012

To the editor:

I would like to start off by thanking all those who got out and voted for the 1-cent sales tax to pay the city's delinquent payroll taxes. It just shows once again that Blytheville can put its differences aside for what's best for our city. Now to the reason I'm writing this letter. I periodically read the letters to the editor and must say, half the time it's a joke. I've never seen people talk so negatively about the place they call home and the people that are doing the negative talking and complaining are usually the ones who never lift a finger to make Blytheville better. They do all the complaining, they find everything that's wrong, but they never have a solution or a legitimate suggestion to make things better.

I also would like to address Mr. Masterson concerning his letter he wrote a few weeks ago. First of all, it takes an entire council to move this city forward and not just one council person (Missy Langston). I happen to think our mayor and the entire council are doing a great job and they all should be thanked for the work they do.

As a young leader in this community, I've never seen a small community be as divided as we are. Racially, economically and mentally. Mrs. Vera James wrote a nice article last week about the unity in our community. We must work together to make our city move forward. Let's stop pointing fingers and do what we can do to help out city. Join us (the city) in April to clean up our city, join us this spring to do peace marches throughout the community. The city needs solutions, not more problems.

With all of this being said, let's all try to strive to make Blytheville a better, more positive place to be, because this is our home.
