Buffalo Island Central school board renews principals' contracts

The Buffalo Island Central School Board unanimously voted to renew all building principals contracts at the regular Feb. 13 meeting. Principals include Nicole Stewart, BIC East elementary; Dr. Kima Stewart, BIC West elementary; Mark Hurst, junior high; and Randy Rose, high school.

Following an executive session, the board voted unanimously to extend Superintendent George Edd Holland's contract by one year (2013-2014).

All board members were present including President Scott Colbert, John Field, Terry Edwards, Todd Edwards, Nathan Sanders, Bill Misner and Darrin McFall.

Board member Terry Edwards received a plaque from the Arkansas School Board Association recognizing him for achieving Master Board Member status for his service and professional development.

Several resignations were accepted. Brooke Dunigan, junior and senior high cheer sponsor, will resign at the end of the current contract year. Reba Donner, junior high principal secretary, resigned as of the end of the contract year. JoAnna Lopez resigned as of Jan. 27.

In other business:

*The Board voted 7-0 to renew the School Board Legal Liability Policy with Bancorp South, endorsed by the ASBA.

*The board voted to renew the district membership with the Arkansas Public School Unemployment Compensation Program.

*Bids were reviewed and accepted for replacing a HVAC unit for East Elementary Cafeteria. Bids included Chambers Electric, LLC, Leachville $10,524; D&L Inc., Blytheville, $10,546; and RGB, Jonesboro, $12,600. The board voted unanimously to accept the Chambers Electric bid.
