Sherry Louise Campbell

Saturday, February 18, 2012

Mrs. Sherry Louise Campbell, 66, went to be with the Lord Thursday, Feb, 16, 2012, at her home in Blytheville. She was the daughter of the late Grover and Katherine Hollis Whittle and the wife of Charles H. Campbell Sr. She was retired from Safeway, and had worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Wagner and Dr. Craig. She was a member of the Blytheville Country Club and was of the Episcopal Faith.

Sherry was an avid golfer and had won golf tournaments in many states, including Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri, and Mississippi. She was runner-up for the Country Club Ladies Golf Championship title twice, and had the distinction of making a hole-in-one three times. She was also past president of the Ladies Golf Association.

Sherry was very fond of country music. Willie Nelson, Conway Twitty and Waylon Jennings were her favorites, but she also really enjoyed Elvis Presley.

She loved her family. Her grandchildren remember how much fun they had playing card games with her. She and her husband often vacationed in Hot Springs Village and in Florida. She loved the Gulf Coast because she loved seafood, especially lobster. Her family says that Sherry was a very good cook.

Sherry was a very sweet and caring person. Her husband talked about the care she showed others. When he was in the hospital in Memphis, she would go to the emergency waiting room and make sure people had pillows and blankets. Her step-children remarked about the excellent care she gave their father. She also donated turkeys to The Haven each year. She had taken care of her parents and her brothers in the years before their deaths.

Her grandchildren remember riding around on the golf course, hula hooping in the back yard, and skating on the golf course with her. She was very proud and it made her very happy to help with her granddaughter's wedding on the Blytheville Country Club Golf Course in 2008. Her daughter told how she loved to dance, laugh, be goofy, have fun, and talk for hours. She will miss her very much. Sherry was always a joy to be around, and she will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry Whittle and Tony Whittle.
