Candles being given to Gold Star moms

Tuesday, January 17, 2012

To the editor:

Do you know who this wonderful group of women are? (www.goldstarmoms.com) They are the strong and proud mothers of America's sons and daughters that have lost their life during service to our country. Have you ever seen, posted in some one's window, a red-bordered rectangle with a blue star in it? Maybe two or three? Every star represents a child that family has in the war. When the star is gold they have lost their life.

This year I'm joining forces with Honor and Remember (www.honorandremember.org) to help distribute our heart-warming candles across the country to Gold Star Mothers, who are mothers that have lost children during service to our country. This campaign gives these mothers a candle to help shine light on their darkest days and give them a symbol of our gratitude for their sacrifices.

Please donate one, two or even 10 candles to these courageous women and let them know that we have not forgotten their children. This year we will be giving them our 7-ounce candle that says "my Soldier My Hero." Each 7-ounce soy candle is a $10 donation, and my goal is 200.

Here's where I need you help. Please understand that I will make no profit on these and they are priced at my cost plus tax/shipping. I must have all funds collected by Jan. 28. Each of the candles you donate will have a gift tag on it with your name. Simply put in the "remarks" box what you would like the tag to say. They will be given out to Gold Star Mothers in Washington, D.C., on Memorial Day Weekend. If you would like one of these candles for yourself or to go to a Gold Star Mother that you know personally (and is not attending the Gold Star Memorial Day weekend) they are the same price with a $5 drop ship fee if they need to be mailed directly. Simply Contact me and I'll get your order out to them.

Remember, these women could be you or you sister or your mom or your grandmother, so let's give them a candle to light up their nights and let them know we care and remember.

You can call me at 870-623-8877 with your donation or stop in at Day's Men's Store to make your donation and designate your name and what you wish the tag to say. Again, I am making no profit from this effort. Cash or money orders only please, made out to Barbara Williams.
