Local businesses need better customer service

To the editor:

The customer is always wrong, or at least they are in Blytheville.

If the merchants in Blytheville want the customers to shop locally, then something needs to be done about customer service. The attitude of the workers in most of the places stinks. I am not going to say it's all of the places, but it is in the majority of the places. You can not hardly go any place in this town and check out without the workers talking on the phone, amongst themselves or to someone else other than you, the customer. The attitude amongst most of the workers is: why are you here at my job bothering me while I'm at work? Why are you here in my line waiting to check out? Can't you see I am trying to use the phone? If you ask to speak to the manager. he has the same attitude: why are you telling me? I'm here trying to get paid. They take up for their workers.

It seems it's my fault for going to the store. It's my fault if a worker messes up. I guess it's just the age of no accountability. No one's to blame but me.

It would be nice to be able to shop locally, but there needs to be an incentive for me to spend my money. I need for the people who I am giving it to make me feel that they appreciate getting it from me. I need to know that I can get a product from them and someone who's informed can tell me about it.

But the No. 1 thing that I want when I go into an establishment is for whoever is waiting on me to listen to me, the customer. Without us customers, you would be without a job.

I would like to congratulate Days Mens Store, Fonderns Hardware, Fasco Hardware, Sears, TBIB, Smith Tire and Christian World -- just a few of the places in Blytheville that get customer service right.

I would like to take the time to thank the officers at the Blytheville Police Department. I was recently involved in an incident which required the assistance of several officers. Never in my life have I been treated with such dignity and respect that the officers displayed. The officers were kind, courteus, informative and very, very respectful. They showed a level of integrity that should be displayed by all humans.

I would like to thank them for setting such a good example, and I would hope that they would continue to do such an excellent job when dealing with the people. My hat is off to are local boys in blue who continue to work so diligently to make our community a better place to live. Keep up the good work!
