James Harold Hitchcock, 70, of Manila, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at his residence. He was born May 21, 1941, in Lambert, Miss., to the late James Chester Hitchcock and was raised in the Manila and Osceola areas. He had been a longtime Florida resident before making his home in Manila 13 years ago. He was a retired farmer and of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two infant sons, James Jr. Hitchcock and James David Hitchcock, and a grandson, John McVay.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hattie Barlow Hitchcock of the home; three daughters, Deborah Hitchcock of Anderson, S.C., Judy Stevens and Ruby Schrader, both of Manila; his mother, Mrs. Bertha Lorine Galloway of Manila, a brother, James Ernest Hitchcock of Florida; and four sisters, Betty Augustine Vandiver of Manila, Wanda Green of Manila, Martha Galloway of Leachville, and Brenda Yates of Dayton, Tenn. He also leaves eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, in the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with Rev. Raymond Britt and Rev. Gary Galloway officiating. Burial will follow in the Manila Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
