Jose Castanon

Jose Castanon, 67 of Jonesboro, formerly of Leachville, died Friday at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.

Born at Santa Rosa, Texas, he was the son of the late Cosmo and Mercedes Rojas Castanon. He was a retired farmer and had lived many years in Leachville before moving to Jonesboro in 2009. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jose Castanon Jr. in 2007.

Survivors include:

Two sons, Jimmy Castanon of Leachville and Felipe Castanon of Santa Rosa, Texas;

Two daughters, Ludivina Garza of Jonesboro and Elvira Myers of Leachville;

One step-son, Nick Ruiz of Leachville;

Seven brothers, Cosmo Castanon Jr., Stevie Castanon, Thomas Castanon, Felipe Castanon and Domingo Castanon, all of Flint, Mich., Francisco Azua of Corinth, Miss., and Saul Rojas of Santa Rosa, Texas;

Six sisters, Cookie Whitten, Nancy Fisher, Millie Hodge and Janie Spooner, all of Flint, Mich., Amelia Villareal of Fort Worth, Texas, and Alicia Sanchez of Santa Rosa, Texas; and

18 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville with the Rev. Bobby Floyd officiating. Burial will follow in Leachville Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
