Walter F. 'Buddy' Benton

Friday, July 22, 2011

Mr. Walter F. "Buddy" Benton, 67, of Armorel, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis.

He worked for Timex for many years as a tool and die maker, and after moving to Blytheville he taught at Blytheville High School before going to work at Hawks Pawn Shop where he was currently employed.

He was a member of First Christian Church, where he was a very important part of the choir, and often sang solos. He loved the Lord, going to church, singing in the choir, and spending time with his family. He thought daughter Michelle was the "smartest thing" in the world, and grandchildren Jordan (Silly Goose) and Cole (Grinner Boy) were the apples of his eye. Other than going to church and work, he enjoyed just staying home with Winnie, his beloved wife of 31 years.

He was an expert on guns and knives and collecting them was his favorite hobby, although he also enjoyed watching drag racing and football on TV.

Buddy was a kind, loving, honest, dependable man who was loyal to family and friends. He was truly a "good" man. He was a "walking encyclopedia" and could converse on any subject. He was always willing to do whatever needed to be done. His daughter said that he was a wonderful father and, according to his son-in-law, Buddy was living proof that there is a God.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Franklin and Louise Benton Sr.

He leaves his wife, Winnie;

His daughter, Michelle Hardy, and her husband, Chris;

Two grandchildren, Jordan Hardy and Cole Hardy;

His adopted family, Bill and Clorita Hardy; and

A host of friends who loved him.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Carney Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church with Dr. Tommy Carney officiating. Interment will be in Carney Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be made to First Christian Church Choir Robe Fund or to the American Heart Association. Condolences may be offered at www.carneyfuneralhome.com
