Mrs. Betty Jean Wallace, 80, of Manila, the widow of Mr. Wayne Wallace, died Thursday, May 5, 2011, at the Manila Nursing Center. Born in Manila, se was the daughter of the late Clyde and Mae Allen Parker and had been a lifelong resident of Manila.

Well known throughout the community, she had worked at Chestnut's Grocery before purchasing the store. A few years later she sold to Glenn Farmer but continued to work there for several years.

She was retired from the Manila School System where she worked in the cafeteria. She was an accomplished seamstress and beauty operator, enjoyed world travel, having been to France, Switzerland and other foreign countries.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Sam Parker.

She leaves two sons, Logan Wallace and Scott Wallace, both of Manila;

One daughter, Melanie Fields of Jones, Okla.; and

Nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Manila Cemetery with the Rev. William Piercy officiating under the direction of Howard Funeral Service. The family will receive visitors from noon until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
