Blytheville needs to move into 21 century

Thursday, February 17, 2011

To the editor:

I am 62 years and have lived in Blytheville all of my life. I retired from the Blytheville School District after teaching for 40 years.

I drive all over town and I see trash along fences, on sidewalks and in the street, potholes, water leaks, burned-out houses, weed infested lots, stray dogs and open ditches. It looks as bad as it did in the 1950s when I saw open ditches, dirt and gravel roads in town, and houses falling down. The only things missing now are the "white-only" signs.

My family works hard to keep our property clean and safe. What can we do about everyone else? I pray that Blytheville will be able to move into the 21st century soon.
