Hospital staff goes the extra mile

Wednesday, February 2, 2011

To the editor:

I have a friend who suffers from a rare health condition that can sometimes be very dangerous. There is a treatment for it, but it must be administered within a certain length of time.

Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, she had an attack. Mississippi County EMTs took her to Great River Medical Center ER. Connie Ash, director of clinical operations met us in the ER. Within minutes, my friend was in a room, the medication was administered and she was comfortable.

This condition is so rare, the staff at GRMC did not know about it. Connie contacted the drug company to discuss what the method of treatment should be. She called the pharmacist and the ER nurse. They discussed what they drug company had told Connie.

The drug company has agreed to send a representative to GRMC to train the staff in the administration of this medication.

I have taken friends to GRMC several times. They have always been treated with professional and immediate attention.

That day, they went the extra mile to do what was necessary for my friend. After reading the article about the updates at the hospital in Friday's Courier News, I wanted to write to say THANK YOU to the staff at GRMC who acted so quickly and appropriately to care for my friend.

Thank you for a job well done!
