James "Jim" Taylor, 76, of Columbia, Ill., formerly of Leachville, passed from this life Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010. Born in Leachville, he was the son of the late Homer and Lula McClawn Taylor and was a 1952 graduate of Leachville High School. He was a retired riverboat captain, working the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers for 46 years. He was a Mason and member of the Leachville First Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Pat McClellan.

He leaves his wife, Janet Taylor of the home;

One, Bently Dorman;

One daughter, Lauralea Beyer;

One step-son, Bill Mulconnery of Smithton, Ill,;

One step-daughter, Shelley Harris and her husband, Robert, of Freeburg, Ill.;

His brother, Harold Taylor, and his wife, Ruth, of Belton, Mo.;

Two sisters, Linda Taylor of Osceola and Betty Kimmel and her husband, Grover, of Bella Vista;

Seven grandchildren, Merritt, Abbie, Garrett, Kyle, Emily, Brianne and Brett; and

Several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services with Masonic Rites will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Leachville Cemetery under the direction of Howard Funeral Service. The family will receive visitors Friday from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the funeral home in Leachville. The family suggests any memorials be made to: Canterbury Manor 718 N.
