Vaunda Leon Bowers, 88, went to be with the Lord and his loving wife of 66 years, Charline, on Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at Lakeside Nursing Center in Lake City. He was born April 17, 1921, in Fender to the late Charles and Anna Bowers. He was a lifelong resident of Lake City, a farmer and retired from Hytrol Conveyor Company. As a member of the First Baptist Church, he served as a deacon for many years and was also a Mason. He spent his whole life in service to the Lord and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and an example to all those who knew and loved him. He loved to hunt and fish.

Those that will miss him most will be his two daughters, Ann Bowers of Lake City and Karen Anderson of Collierville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Phillip Gathright and Malisa Klug of Memphis; three great-grandchildren, Olivia, Piper and Al; a brother, Charles Bowers of Lake City; a sister, Marilee Lewis of Collierville; a nephew, Chuck Bowers, and two nieces, Rose McKelvy and Ruth Kerr. He also will be missed by Don Baker and Sarah Crews who he lovingly regarded as his own.

A celebration of his life was held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Gregg Funeral Home Chapel in Monette with Rev. Larry Owens officiating. Burial was in the Monette Memorial Cemetery.

Honored to serve as pallbearers were John Crews, Gary Owens, Mike Hook, Casey Hook, Robert Herndon and Al Klug.

Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Gregg Funeral Home in Monette.

Lasting memorials may be sent to Alzheimer's Association.
