Herschel Roy Bunting, 87 of Bloomingto,Ill., passed away Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at 6:45 p.m. at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington, Ill. His funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Grace Church in Normal, Ill., with Rev. Ed Scearce officiating.

Entombment Park Hill Mausoleum, Bloomington, IL with military rites accorded. His visitation was 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, Ill.

He was born May 24, 1922, in Albion, Ill., the son of Ivan J. and Ruth Johnson Bunting. He married Evelyn B. Gore on May 9, 1942, in Caraway. She passed away Dec. 16, 2007.

Survivors include three children, Diana Ruth (Larry) Sanders, Black Oak, David R. (Rachel) Bunting, Fishers, Ind., and Randy R. (Shirley) Bunting, El Paso, Ill.; a brother, Max (Helen) Bunting, Texas; two sisters, Evelyn Koch, Champaign, Ill., Helen (Don) Meyers, Minifee, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Norma Bunting, Albion, Ill., nine grandchildren and nine great-granchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a son and a brother.

Herschel was a charter member of Grace Church, Normal, Ill. He taught Sunday school at the Baptist Church for 26 years. He was a member of the Ironworkers Local #112, Peoria, Ill.

He worked for C. Iber & Sons, East Peoria, Ill. for 45 years until he retired in 1987. He was involved in the construction of many buildings including the dormitories at Illinois State University, Normal, Ill. Herschel served in the US Navy during WW II.
