Ode Ward

Ode Ward, 97, of Caraway went to be with his Savior on Sunday, May 31, 2009, at Lakeside Nursing Center in Lake City.

Mr. Ward was born March 3, 1912, in Baxter, Tenn., and was a resident of Leachville for many years before moving to Caraway in 1950, where he and his wife, Beatrice, were longtime farmers. Mr. Ward attended the Assembly of God Church in Black Oak.

Mr. Ward was preceded in death by his wife of 78 years, Beatrice Ward on April 7, 2009; his parents, William and Ruth Ward; four brothers; one sister and a granddaughter.

He leaves one son and his wife, James and Barbara Ward of Cordova, Tenn.; two daughters and their husbands, Vondella and Leon Davis of Caraway and Lois and Larry Meadows of Tonganoxie, Kansas; 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, at the Gregg Funeral Home in Monette with the Rev. Floyd Porter officiating. Burial was in the Leachville Cemetery.

Visitation was held Tuesday, June 2, from 6-8 p.m. at the Gregg Funeral Home in Monette.

Honored to serve as pallbearers were Jimmy Ward, Doyle Ward, Jerry Ward, Donnie Ward, Bobby Ward and Kevin Ward and as honorary pallbearers, Lynn Haag, Dale Haas, Bill Hawkins, Kyle Haas and Doyle McAfee.
