Dorothy Jeanine Wright Schnautz, 73, of Afton and Grove, Okla., died Friday, April 10, 2009 at Prairie Haven Nursing Center, Kensington, Kan., near her daughter. She was born Oct. 26, 1935 in Manila, the daughter of the late Emery Wright and Lorean Counts Wright Ballard. In November 2007 her husband, Kenneth C. Schnautz preceded her in death. They had celebrated 50 years of marriage in early spring of that year. He was a 1957 graduate of Arkansas State (now ASU) and served as superintendent of schools in Oklahoma and in Chetopa, Kan. Her stepfather, Dial Ballard, also preceded her in death.

Jeanine is survived by a daughter, Tracy Schnautz Stein, Athol, Kan.; two sons, Monty Schnautz, Miami, Okla.; Tony Schnautz, Broken Arrow, Okla.; four grandsons, two granddaughters; a great-granddaughter with a second great-granddaughter due the 21st of this month. She is also survived by cousins, along with other relatives, and many friends in Arkansas.

Jeanine was a hairdresser for many years like her mother. She was a 1953 graduate of Manila High School where she played basketball all through high school; was secretary-treasurer of her senior class; reporter junior and sophomore years; and participated in both her junior and senior plays. At ASU she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority and during her sophomore year was selected sweetheart of Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) fraternity.

She was cremated and there will be a private family memorial service at a later date. Jeanine's ashes will be spread on Grand Lake o' the Cherokees, on Monkey Island in Grove, Okla., where her husband's are.
