Freddie Gene Simpson

Freddie Gene Simpson, 73, of Etowah, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at the Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti. He was born Aug. 29, 1935, in Monette to Ransom Simpson and Effie Sims Simpson, both of whom preceded him in death. He owned Simpson Grocery in Etowah for 40 years, was an Army veteran, and professed his faith in Christ in Nov. 2005.

Also preceding him in death were three sisters, Vera Cates, Mildred Armstrong and Onia Boston, and two brothers, Orville Simpson and Elliot Sims.

He is survived by his wife, Daisy Barrett; a daughter, Tabitha and George Rust III of Christiansburg, Vir.; a grandson, George Rust IV of Christiansburg, Vir.; a son, Ernie Simpson of Keiser; two sisters, Era Noble of Kennett and Maxine Kemp of Little Rock.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Friday at Wilson Funeral Home of Osceola. Burial was at Garden Point with Brother Huey Meherg officiating.
