Jonesboro

Gwendolyn Marie Gibson, 86, of Jonesboro died Thursday night, Feb. 12, 2008, at her home. She was born in Kensett and had lived in Jonesboro most of her life. She was a member of Nettleton Baptist Church. As a graduate of Nettleton High School, she went on to Arkansas State University, where she received her bachelor's and master's degrees in education. She had been the psychological examiner for the Jonesboro School District.

She taught school at Bay, Brookland, Egypt, five years in California, and at Jonesboro High School, where she retired at age 65.

She was the daughter of Ed and Evelyn Williams and wife of Dallas O. Gibson for 50 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son, Dallas E. Gibson; a sister, Louise Gilbert; and a brother, Robert Williams.

She is survived by three daughters, Delois A. Vance and her husband, Roger, Jackie M. Birdsell and husband, Billy, and Wyvettta Bennett and husband Lindel, all of Jonesboro; two sisters, Geraldine Little of Michigan and Carol Ludney of West Virginia; brothers, Wilford "Bill Williams of Lake City, Dale Williams and Billy Williams, both of Jonesboro; 10 grandchildren, Douglas O. Woodard, Janet Nickerson, Gilbert Vance, Regina Spence, Dallas Spence, Timmy Spence, Ginger Davis, Kim Birdsell, Michael Bennett and Robby Bennett; 15 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Stan Ballard officiating. Burial was at Nettleton Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Grandsons served as pallbearers.
