Monette

Barbara Faye Hurst York, 65, of Monette, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, at her residence. She was born May 28, 1942 at the Wallace residence to late Dan and Vivian Wallace Hurst and left this world at the same residence with her family at her side. She was a retired nurse and also taught school for a few years. She was a descendent of the Wallace, Stotts and Larison families who were part of the first settlers to Buffalo Island. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Monette and loved her church family. She was also a member of Gamma Beta Sigma, National Nurses Association and Who's Who of Nurses Association of America. She was a wonderful caring person, who loved doing for others; her family and everyone whose lives she had touched will miss her.

Survivors include her husband of 44 years, James L. York of the home; three daughters and their husbands, Lisa and Jamie Ballard of Friendswood, Texas; Dana and Brandon McKuin of Holcomb, Mo., and Jama and Charis Michaelides of Nicosia, Cyprus; four grandchildren, Mallory Ballard, Madelena Ballard, Taylor McKuin and Rachel McKuin; a brother and his wife, Bob and Connie Hurst of Monette; a step-son and his wife, Kaylon and Amy Grubbs of Georgia and two step-grandsons, Jacob and Jared Grubbs.

A celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Monette United Methodist Church in Monette with Jamie Ballard and Rev. Jerry Reed officiating. Burial will follow in Monette Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are William Eason, Tom Carroll, Michael York, Henry Dean Finch, Brandon McKuin and W.T. Bibb and as honorary pallbearers the Class of 1960 Monette High School.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Gregg Funeral Home in Monette.
