Jonesboro

Agnes Velores Barber, 87, of Jonesboro, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007. Born at Salado in Independence County, Mrs. Barber lived much of her life in Craighead County.

She and her husband operated a grocery store and cafe at Lunsford in the 1950s. She worked several years as a sales associate for J.C. Penney at Jonesboro before her retirement. She was a member of Nettleton Baptist Church where she was a member of Fidelis II Sunday School Cass.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff Barber; a son, Jim Barber; and a daughter, Jan McKinney.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Norris Watkins of Jonesboro; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Barber of Lake City; a son-in-law, Doyle McKinney of Walnut Ridge; eight grandchildren, David McKinney, Traci Smith and Robyn Beavers, all of Jonesboro, Blake Barber of Lake City, Scott Watkins of Salem, Bart Barber, Ashley Warrick and Karen Underwood, all of Texas; 17 great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Emerson Memorial Chapel in Jonesboro with Bart Barber and David McKinney officiating.

A committal service was held Wednesday afternoon in Egner Cemetery near Salado with Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro in charge of arrangements.

Grandsons served as pallbearers.
