Monette

Fred Chambers, 64 of Monette, died Friday, June 8, 2007, at his residence after an extensive illness. Born May 5, 1943, in Monette, to the late James Ladell Chambers and Martha Geneva Wallace, he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Monette. He was a radio broadcaster for more than 40 years. Thirty-six of those years were at Sudbury Broadcasting in Blytheville. He also worked at KBIB in Monette, and KWCB in Searcy, and retired in 2004. He served in the Army National Guard and in the Army Reserve. Mr. Chambers was a collector of records from the fifties and sixties. His collection had grown to several thousand copies.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Janis (Howell) Chambers of Monette; a son, Perry Chambers of Monette; a daughter, Julie Lee and husband Chris Lee of Lake City; a grandson, Shawn Chambers of D'Iberville, Miss.; a granddaughter, Teagan Lee of Lake City; a sister, Glenda Disalvo and husband Henry of Lake City, a brother, Robert Chambers and wife Marsha of Monette.

Mr. Chambers was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Chambers.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Monette with Rev. Rusty Bird and Jeremy Sullivan officiating. Burial was at Monette Cemetery in Monette. Faith Funeral Service of Manila was in charge of arrangements.

The family requests anyone wishing to leave a lasting memorial consider the First Baptist Church Family Life Center in Monette.

Pallbearers were Keith Cole, W.O. (Dub) Armstrong, Tom Hill, Tom Perrine, Bill Wagner, and Mike Lester.

Honorary pallbearers were Steve McGuire, Harold Cole, Larry Lovelace, Larry Krutz, Jean White, Hugh Davis, Tommy Mason, Sandra Sharp, Jim McMahan, Bill Sanders, Harold Sudbury, Don Houseworth, Roy Poplin, Reggie Craig, Gary Tucker, Wayne Aultman, Herman Aultman, Dwight Wren and Walter Lloyd.
